Inspiration comes from anywhere.....including a Punk Rock interview
In a YouTube visit down memory lane to the music of my youth, I came across this CBC Q interview (posted below) of Michael Burkett (aka Fat Mike) from the punk rock band NOFX and CEO of Fat Wreck Records. The discussion centred mainly on the journey of his record label and the fundamental values that has kept the business flourishing over the last 24+ years.
A courageous and creative personality, Michael had some excellent stories and realities about his journey and here are my 4 biggest take-aways from this interview:
- honesty and transparency play a vital role in the integrity and sustainability of a business
- Passion for your purpose helps keep you focused
- It’s okay to walk away from situations that may appear prosperous yet don’t align with your values
- Flexibility and openness in how you achieve your vision can help with the longevity of your “why” *(currently reading Simon Sinek’s ‘Start With Why’...another motivation for this take-away:))
Inspiration
for what we do can come anywhere and can be applicable to many areas of our
life. For me, this interview is one where the lessons presented by Mike along
with his presence, have me thinking about how I can apply to my career, family,
and life.
